Biomass
The term biomass encompasses a variety of fuels and technologies used to produce renewable energy. Biomass refers to land and water-based vegetation, organic wastes and photosynthetic organisms. These are non-fossil, renewable carbon resources from which energy can be produced and used as fossil fuel substitutes.
Biomass is the oldest fuel used by mankind and is basically all organic material. It has suffered a decline in the last century as the use of fossil fuels increased. However, the environmentally harmful effects of burning fossil fuels coupled with the need to secure renewable sources of energy has resulted in a return to using natural and clean sources of energy such as wood pellets and wood chips.
Modern boilers burn high quality wood fuels such as wood pellets and chips pellets automatically, free of any sign of smoke and with emissions comparable to modern oil fired systems.
Renewable Fuel: Wood Pellets
Pellets are a clean, dry fuel made from a mixture of sawdust and wood shavings. Pellets are a high energy, smoke free fuel. Unlike other solid fuels, they are easy to handle and create almost no ash.
Wood pellets are a renewable source of energy and do not contribute to climate change. The carbon dioxide that is released when pellets are burned is equal to the amount the tree consumed when it was growing. Wood pellets are manufactured with wood from sustainable forests.
